Godwin is God-ly efficient

When taking a look at the analytics, Chris Godwin’s stock does not drop, but somehow manages to soar even higher. To be honest, when taking a look at analytical numbers like DVOA and DYAR, used to measure a player’s efficiency per play and overall value respectively, Godwin has been by far the best receiver in the league this season.

According to Football Outsiders, Godwin ranks atop the league in DVOA, as a whopping 70 percent of his plays are resulting in a success over the league average. The next highest percentage of successful plays against the league average at the wide receiver position is Seattle Seahawks’ wide receiver Tyler Lockett at 39.2 percent, over 30 percent lower than Godwin’s number.

Looking at DYAR, again meant to show a player’s overall value, Godwin again finds himself at the top of the standings with 334. The next highest number at the wide receiver position is 177, owned by Saints’ receiver Thomas; Godwin is ranked at an elite 91.4 according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required).

Not only is Godwin an ultra-productive receiver, but he is doing it on lower targets than the guys around him, catching a whopping 80 percent of the passes thrown his way. This number is good enough to put him tied for second in catch rate, behind only Lockett.
