Potential options at QB for Buccaneers in 2020

Other draft options
As of now it appears that Burrow would be the prime candidate for the Bucs based on his skillset and where he will likely end up but there are several other quarterbacks in the draft that will be attainable for the Bucs and have the potential to be very successful players. These players have not yet reached that “elite” status granted to some of the other prospects, but their skills are undeniable and with the way that the NFL is changing their skillsets may be coveted in the future.
The first prospect that could be an intriguing option for the Bucs is Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hurts has lit the Big 12 on fire under head coach Lincoln Riley both through the air and on the ground. Jalen Hurts is full dual threat quarterback and is incredibly successful on the ground and has taken strides with his pass game while at Oklahoma.
With the success that Baltimore has found with Lamar Jackson at quarterback, don’t be surprised if the NFL starts to value more mobile quarterbacks in the future. Projections on Hurts are split and it is not entirely likely that he will fit in a Bruce Arians offense but he could still be an interesting quarterback for the Buccaneers in the future if they move past Jameis.
Another quarterback that the Bucs could use in 2021, if they choose to wait a year, is Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields. After leaving Georgia due to the emergence of Jake Fromm (a quarterback who will likely be out of reach for the Bucs in the draft), Justin Fields has been a part of a dominant and undefeated Ohio State team.
Fields is completing over 70% of his passes and has only thrown one interception on the year. Fields is incredibly consistent as a passer and has even shown that he is able to be mobile and comfortable when outside of the pocket which is a skill that the Bucs should certainly look for if they are adding a new quarterback. Him and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence are names to keep an eye on in the future.
