Mock Draft Monday: Buccaneers looking to replace Jameis Winston?
By Cory Kinnan
3.75: Cameron Dantzler, CB, Mississippi State
Here we go again; the Buccaneers are going to have to use another day-two pick on a cornerback as they are still fielding the worst secondary in the NFL. In the third round of this mock draft, the Bucs land Mississippi State cornerback Cameron Dantzler to add depth and potentially replace a few players in the secondary.
Taking Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel Dean in the second and third rounds of the 2019 draft, the Bucs were hoping to have solved their secondary issue. However Dean is just now getting healthy and has yet to see the field, while Murphy-Bunting has had some growing pains early on.
However it is hard to see a way that Vernon Hargreaves and his nearly $10 million salary makes his way back to One Buc in 2020 given his struggles this year. Carlton Davis has shown to be the only solid option at the cornerback position for the Buccaneers this year.
Dantzler is playing out his junior year for the Bulldogs right now, and through two games has picked off two passes, recorded six passes defended, a half a sack, and 17 solo tackles. At 6-2 and 185 pounds, Dantzler has the size and length that Bowles likes in his lockdown cornerbacks.
