Teddy Bridgewater has been a more than serviceable replacement in the absence of Drew Brees in 2019.
Before arriving in New Orleans, Bridgewater essentially missed two entire seasons with a lingering ACL tear and other structural damage, including a dislocation of the knee joint. He spent the majority of that time off rehabbing and then signed with the Saints before the 2018 season with the intention of backing up Drew Brees.
This year, he’s been able to lead the Saints to five straight wins in the only five games he’s started, including last week’s game against a stout Bears defense. He’s been a godsend for the Saints, enabling them to realistically continue their playoff push.
His ability cannot be questioned as he’s thrown for nine touchdowns and two interceptions, albeit in a high-powered offense with no shortage of weapons. But then again, Bridgewater was able to best the Bears defense without the help of Alvin Kamara, and if you want to compare weapons, Winston has had Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate to feed the ball to this season, and even the likes of Adam Humphries and DeSean Jackson in past seasons.
If the Bucs want a quarterback that can make the most of his situation and surroundings, Bridgewater would be a prime target.
