2. Joe Thuney, New England Patriots

One organization known for letting linemen walk at the end of their contracts, the New England Patriots have a guard coming off their books after the 2019 season in Joe Thuney. One of the better guards in the league, Thuney is grading out at a high 72 according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required), and is a staple of the Pats’ offensive front.

Thuney will be 27 years old by the time the offseason rolls around, and has never missed a start in four seasons in New England after being a third round pick back in 2016. Durable and dependable, Thuney will be worth every penny he earns this offseason, whether it is from the Patriots or another team.

The Buccaneers would hike their spending along their offensive line by giving Thuney a big deal, but if they believe they are still in win now mode, then it could be well worth the investment. Thuney is a significant upgrade from Cappa, but the question the Bucs have to ask is whether or not it is passing on the development of the first year starter for a more expensive upgrade.

Again, while guard is not one of the larger needs on the Bucs’ roster, they could look to bulk it up after this colossal failure of an effort this season from the pewter and red front.
