3. Trae Waynes, Minnesota Vikings

The second Michigan State Spartan to appear on this list of cornerbacks for the Buccaneers to pursue this offseason is current Minnesota Viking Trae Waynes. There have been talks since the offseason that the Vikings have been looking to move Waynes via a trade in the last year of his rookie contract, but nothing has come to fruition yet.

The way the cornerback market has been playing out over the past two seasons, if you are not an elite player, then a shorter term deal has been the route teams are taking. Waynes could be in the market for a two-year deal worth upwards of $16-20 million in value this offseason as his rookie deal is set to expire.

In his contract year, Waynes has recorded an interception, five passes defended, and a forced fumble in seven starts for the Minnesota defense. While his numbers look good in a box score, Waynes is grading out at just an average 57.1 according to PFF.

Over his career, Waynes has tallied seven interceptions and 39 passes defended, all for the Vikings. Coming in as the third best cornerback on the market in this year’s free agent cornerback class, Waynes is looking at a nice little extension.
