Tampa Bay Buccaneers land new quarterback in recent mock draft
By Cory Kinnan
In a recent mock draft, the Buccaneers finally part ways with Jameis Winston as they select Washington quarterback Jacob Eason.
The Draft Network puts out a new full first round mock draft weekly, and this week featured the Tampa Bay Buccaneers landing a new quarterback for the future. As Jameis Winston still fails to find any sort of consistency to his game, the Bucs decide to move on and grab Washington quarterback Jacob Eason with the ninth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
This mock draft was completed by TDN’s Jordan Reid, who had Eason as the fourth quarterback taken in the first nine picks of the draft after Tua Tagovailoa, Joe Burrow, and Justin Herbert. It was rumored that the Bucs were attempting to get another first round pick at the deadline; this could be to have ammunition to trade up in the draft for the quarterback of their choice.
"“In Bruce Arians book, “The Quarterback Whisperer”, he talks about how he loved throwers that were big statured, fearless, remained poised, could take big hits, and deliver in big moments. That describes Jacob Eason to a T…His career development is very similar to many previous Arians disciples in that they needed some fine tuning before reaching their full potential” (Reid via TDN)."
In this writer’s opinion, Eason is a bit of a project as he has a massive arm, but struggles with accuracy, especially down the field. He is currently graded as a fourth round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft class, but quarterbacks far worse than Eason have gone in the top ten in just the past two years (paging Josh Allen and Daniel Jones).
You can hear me talk about the top quarterback prospects here.
The Bucs have been rather mum on what the future holds for Winston in Tampa Bay and whether or not they will pursue a rebuild. It is beginning to look more and more likely that the pewter and red will move on from Winston as the weeks pass as he still does not have a new contract yet.
