Walk the Plank! 3 Buccaneers who contributed to loss vs. Saints
By Cory Kinnan
OC Byron Leftwich
On the day, the Buccaneers tallied 16 first downs, went 5-13 on third down, racked up 298 passing yards and 334 total yards. Yet the pewter and red offense managed to find the endzone only twice on the day and finished the game with just 17 points as kicker Matt Gay split the uprights once as well.
The offensive gameplans continue to feature the inefficient Breshad Perriman, who is still playing more snaps than rookie Scotty Miller despite the results. Running back Ronald Jones finished the game with just four carries and two catches for a total of 14 yards combined; correct, Jones was given just six touches on the day.
When talking about offensive balance and establishing your playmakers, running the ball a total of eight times is not ideal poster material. Eight carries is generous for the Buccaneers as well, as two of the carries were Winston scrambles, and two more were hurry-up goal line carries by third down back Dare Ogunbowale.
The best offensive players on the team in Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, however, finished the game with just seven catches and 14 targets. Tight end Cameron Brate finished with that same amount of targets on his own.
It is becoming evident that offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich is in over his head with the game planning and play calling duties for the Buccaneers as he continues to neglect his biggest playmakers.
Byron Leftwich, you may walk the plank!
