Even if Buccaneers move on from Jameis Winston, they should not draft QB

If the Buccaneers decide to move on from quarterback Jameis Winston, they should not look for his replacement in the 2020 NFL Draft.

Let’s face it, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are not close to competing and must blow up their current roster and plan. This may include moving on from quarterback Jameis Winston if they decide to go this route; this does not mean that the Bucs should draft another quarterback in the first round, however.

In fact, they must strongly stay away from drafting a quarterback in the 2020 NFL Draft. Given that the Buccaneers are not just one or two positions away from competing, and actually lack foundational talent, they must wait to draft a quarterback until the other pieces are laid. In the NFL, the main foundational pieces are often identified as quarterbacks, offensive tackles, edge rushers, and cornerbacks.

As the roster sits now, the Buccaneers currently have none of these four positions lined up for the future as Winston is playing out the last year of his rookie deal and Shaquil Barrett signed just a one-year deal this past offseason. While the roster in Tampa Bay is littered with young cornerbacks, none of them have separated themselves as a cornerstone piece of the franchise either.
