Looking at Bridgewater in 2019

Teddy Bridgewater, on the other hand, has played himself into a massive pay day at the end of this season given his performance as Drew Brees’ replacement for five games. In the five games that Bridgewater filled in for Brees, the Saints finished 5-0, and the former first round pick of the Minnesota Vikings played at an extremely efficient level.

In his five starts for the Saints, Bridgewater threw for 1,205 yards passing, nine touchdowns, and just two interceptions. This includes torching the pewter and red secondary for 314 yards and four touchdowns in the Saints’ week five beatdown of the Buccaneers. Taking Bridgewater’s five starts and adjusting them over 16 games, he would be sitting at a statline of 3,856 yards passing with just six interceptions and 29 touchdown passes.

Using the same metrics of DYAR and DVOA from Football Outsiders for Bridgewater, he is graded much higher than Winston on the season. Falling 17th in DYAR and 11th in DVOA, Bridgewater is showing to be a franchise caliber quarterback once again after his devastating knee injury three years ago.

Looking at Bridgewater’s QBR, he falls as the 22nd ranked quarterback by this metric, the only analytic that Winston is above him in. On the other hand, however, Bridgewater has graded out at a high 73.1 according to PFF, well above the standard set by Winston.
