New Mock Draft Monday as Buccaneers address a major weakness
By Cory Kinnan
What in the world has gotten into former first round pick O.J. Howard? It started off bad for the third year freak athlete, and it has only gotten worse. His performance came to a spearhead last week when he dropped a pass that ended up in the hands of the defense; Howard, while on the field, was not targeted again while Cameron Brate caught ten balls.
There is no telling what the future holds for Howard as there were trade discussions about him at the deadline. Given his lack of potential and Arians’ offensive system that does not utilize tight ends, the Bucs could try to gain as many assets from him as possible this offseason.
Cameron Brate is also almost 30 years old and on a pricey contract. While they will keep him if they move Howard, the Bucs better have his replacement in the wings. Enter Jared Pinkney from the Vanderbilt.
The 6-4 and 260 pound Commodore tight end returned to Vandy after a productive junior year, but that bet has not quite paid off as he would have liked. While he was highly regarded this offseason as the potential best tight end in the class, he has seen his production drop significantly in 2019.
Worth the risk of a day three pick, the Bucs could land a talented tight end that has fallen off the radars of other teams.
