Sticking with LSU, the Buccaneers could solve their issue of offensive line depth by drafting Damien Lewis. Lewis was another member of the LSU team that won the national championship, giving him the best experience against talented opponents in college.
This is another pick that seems unlikely to stay in the forth round and smart money would be on Lewis going in an earlier round, but this opportunity would be too good to pass up if it were to present itself.
The Buccaneers had a very solid interior offensive line comprised of Ali Marpet, Ryan Jensen, and Alex Cappa in 2019. Cappa played well in what was his first season as a starter but an injury in the middle of the year set the Buccaneers up for a rough time on the interior of the line.
Damien Lewis has the ability to provide depth at guard and could potentially replace Cappa depending on his level of play. Lewis was a member of one of the best offensive lines in college football in 2019 and has the experience against competent talent to properly prepare himself for the NFL.
This move does not mean that Cappa is on the chopping block, but the Buccaneers do have to make sure that they are protecting Jameis Winston in every way possible. Even if the Bucs choose to franchise tag Winston and then move on, Tampa Bay has to make sure that they have an experienced offensive line for whoever Winston’s replacement will be.
