Derek Carr: $21.5 mil cap in 2020 (Trade a 2020 2nd and a 2021 4th to the Raiders)

A lot of speculation exists in the Twittersphere on whether or not Jon Gruden thinks he can win with Derek Carr under center. Philip Rivers and Tom Brady will have a big say in what happens with Carr this offseason.

The Raiders have expressed their interest particularly in Brady, but they would really have to make some big moves to get him to come to Las Vegas. This trade for the Buccaneers most likely require a second round pick or two, depending on how many teams are in the market for Carr. Ultimately a 2nd plus a 5th would get the job done if the trade were done today and if Brady was on the roster for Las Vegas.

Matthew Stafford – $21.3 mil cap number in 2020 (Trade a 2020 2nd round pick OR a 2021 first round pick plus a 4th round pick in 2020 to the Lions)

A wild card of a trade scenario here, but this one solely lies on the direction the Lions decide to go in. The biggest hiccup to keep the Lions from getting multiple 1st or 2nd round picks is the $33 million cap hit Stafford has in 2021.

There are ways around the cap issue, but adding his ailing back to the situation makes matters more complicated for the Lions.

Ultimately, a 2021 1st can get the job done if the Lions want to draft Tua or Herbert at #3 overall this draft. They may ultimately decide to stick with Stafford and trade down from #3, but given Stafford’s talent and fit with BA/Leftwich scheme definitely makes the situation worth exploring.
