Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR Chris Godwin has the potential to develop into one of, if not the best wide receiver in the league.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers struck gold when the organization drafted WR Chris Godwin with the No. 84 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Though Godwin was a third-rounder, he has developed nicely over the course of his first few seasons in the NFL and has the potential to develop into one of the best wide receivers in the league.
Godwin took major steps forward in 2019 with the best statistical season of his career, totaling 96 receptions for 1,333 yards (15.5 YPC) and nine touchdowns. He also tied a Buccaneers franchise record for most consecutive games with at least one touchdown reception (4).
In terms of the league, Godwin’s 1,333 receiving yards was good enough for third overall and touchdown numbers were good enough for fifth.
He is putting up these big numbers despite only being 23 years of age, which is an extremely impressive feat.
The new era of the NFL is bringing with it plenty of talented and explosive wide receivers, but Godwin ranks up there with anyone.
His speed and play-making ability are things that can’t be matched and there’s no reason to believe that the young WR will be taking a backseat to anyone in the near future.
As we continue to talk about the explosiveness of the Buccaneers offense, we’ll continue to realize that one of the major reasons is the ability of Godwin. People outside of Tampa Bay circles are starting to notice and that will only be amplified over the course of the next few years when Godwin continues to develop and shows that he has just as much talent as any other wide receiver in the NFL.
Get ready, Buccaneers fans. Chris Godwin could become the best wide receiver in the league in the not-so-distant future.
