The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have plenty of holes to fill in the 2020 roster, but the organization has the least cap commitment in the league.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have an enormously important 2020 offseason ahead of them as they look to bring back key free-agents, make the right decisions on outside free-agency and come away with a successful 2020 NFL Draft.

Though the Buccaneers have plenty of roster holes and questions heading into the spring, one bright area is the fact that the organization has the least 2020 cap commitment in the NFL.

According to ESPN’s Field Yates the Buccaneers have just $125.4 million in cap commitments for 2020.

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($125.4 M)
  2. Miami Dolphins ($139.8M)
  3. Buffalo Bills ($140.9M)
  4. New York Giants ($143.0M)
  5. Dallas Cowboys ($150.9M)

Though Tampa Bay has the least commitments coming into the 2020 offseason, the Buccaneers will quickly see cap space eaten up when they re-sign Shaq Barrett (likely upwards of $18 million per year) and likely franchise tag QB Jameis Winston (around $27 million).

Even if the Buccaneers elect to part ways with Winston, they will still likely sign a quarterback in free-agency- a guy like Philip Rivers or Teddy Bridgewater– for upwards of $23 million a year and potentially closer to $30 million per year depending on who the free agent is.

After those two big moves, Tampa Bay has to make decisions on key free-agents like Jason Pierre-Paul, Ndamukong Suh, Carl Nassib, Breshad Perriman and several others.

So, as we head into the offseason, Tampa Bay’s front office has some important decisions to make. The Buccaneers have plenty of cap space to make moves, but let’s not pretend that the space wont’ disappear rather quickly. It’s all about making smart deals and being efficient evaluators.
