He is every bit the player the Buccaneers thought he was when they scooped him up after slipping a bit in the 2018 NFL Draft. The fact that he was a forgotten man in his rookie season and hardly ever touched the ball hurt him in a lot of fans eyes.

That being said, it was actually last season that was for all practical comparisons, his rookie season. Speaking of comparisons, here’s one for you.

Derrick Henry’s numbers from his rookie season are almost identical to Jones’ numbers last season. I know that Henry and Jones are different types of runners and are different sizes from each other. The comparisons are justified in I’m just looking at talent, potential, and progression.

Derrick Henry had his carries increase in his second year, and then again in his third when he won the league rushing title. His production in his first full/rookie season almost mirrored Jones last  year.

  • Henry: 175 attempts for 744 yards.
  • Jones had 172 attempts for 724 yards

You can’t get much closer. Their stats are dead on alike.

If Coach Bruce Arians and Byron Leftwich will tilt their system a bit to make room for a true weapon like Jones, as well as address the O-line in the draft. Ronald Jones could explode this season. It’s not if, it’s when.
