Should the Buccaneers give Ryan Griffin a shot in 2020?
By JD Stenger
Why wasn’t Griffin given a start in 2018 when Jameis Winston and Ryan Fitzpatrick were going back and forth with the starting job? In seasons that were lost, why not a chance?
To discover how a player is going to perform in actual games that count, you have to put him in there. If the player can’t hack it, especially at quarterback, it shows quickly.
How many times have we heard of players that practice so so, but in games, they attain a whole another level of performance? “Gamer” is the moniker given to these type players.
But, how do you know if you have a “Gamer” if he is never been given an NFL start in five seasons, seven if you count the time with the Saints? With the problems Jameis has had with throwing picks, It boggles the mind that he was never brought in during a 4 or 5 interception game in relief of him.
The Bucs have said many times this offseason that they are waiting to view the quarterback landscape once the Collective Bargaining Agreement is decided, franchise tags are revealed, and free agency hits.
They assure that they are leaving all options open in deciding which way to go in the quarterback saga here in Tampa. Yet not once has Ryan Griffin, the only quarterback under contract for 2020, been casually mentioned-not even as a joke.
