Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Jason Licht is going to have a crazy week due to the latest timetable set forth for the franchise tag date.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have some extremely important decisions coming down the pipe and much of that will be made clear over the course of the next week.

Buccaneers GM Jason Licht is going to have quite the crazy week because of the new franchise tag deadline.

THE NFL Players Association and the NFL Management Council agreed to extend the franchise tag deadline to 11:59:59 AM on Monday, according to a report from Tom Pelissero. With that timeline, any player not getting the tag can immediately begin to negotiate with other teams Monday and signings will start Wednesday afternoon.

The Buccaneers are still making a decision on what to do with the tags, especially pertaining to Shaquil Barrett and Jameis Winston. For those wondering, if the CBA is approved, NFL organizations will only be able to use one tag, but if it’s not approved, they’ll be allowed to use a franchise and transition tag. The CBA voting closes on March 12.

Because everything will be happening basically all around the same time, Jason Licht- along with the other members of the Buccaneers front-office- will have a crazy week and will be tasked with making several key decisions in quick order.

The Buccaneers have to reach an agreement with Barrett fairly soon or they’ll be tasked with using the franchise tag on him- with the deadline quickly approaching. If the two parties have a deal in place, Tampa Bay will be tasked with making a decision on who they’ll use the franchise tag on with the deadline before noon Monday, as we said earlier.

There are a lot of moving parts heading into the rest of this week, and it will be interesting to see how the Buccaneers handle this portion of the offseason heading into the free agency period.
