Though the Tampa Bay Buccaneers seem legitimately interested in bringing in the veteran QB, a decent portion of the fanbase isn’t sold on Tom Brady.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are considering all options when it comes to the quarterback position during the 2020 offseason.
One of the most popular ideas- at least nationally- has been the idea that the Buccaneers could offer veteran QB Tom Brady a sizeable deal for him to come in and lead the offense alongside the leadership of Bruce Arians.
As a matter of fact, ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported that the Buccaneers are willing to give Brady control of the roster to make the signing happen.
"“I talked to Tampa Bay. They would love to have Tom Brady,” Russini said on ESPN’s ‘Get Up’. “They are willing to give Tom Brady the thing’s he needs, he wants, and some of those things Brady wants – control of the roster, he wants to be part of at least making decisions on play-calling.”"
Despite the fact that the Buccaneers seem committed to idea of signing Tom Brady, a solid portion of the fanbase isn’t quite as sold.
The Pewter Plank ran a poll on Twitter that received a total of 427 votes. The poll simply asked that if Tampa Bay could sign Brady over Winston- assuming Brady’s interest- would fans want a deal to be done.
The result? 51 percent voted ‘yes’ and 49 percent voted ‘no.’
Now, I understand completely that 427 votes isn’t enough to assume things. There’s hundreds-of-thousands of Buccaneers fans across the country and worldwide and it wouldn’t be fair to say that this poll represents the feeling of an entire fanbase.
That being said, I do think this poll shows something interesting pertaining to Tampa’s fanbase as a whole, though.
Either you’re completely sold out that Jameis Winston is ‘the guy’ and he’s who the Bucs should pursue, or you believe it’s time to move on from Winston, basically no matter who is under center. There’s really no in-between ground.
The support for Winston is still strong among the fanbase, but there is a growing number of fans who believe there’s a better option and are looking for the front-office to make a moving accordingly. Only time will tell what actually ends up happening.
