Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Battle Plan with Tom Brady at QB
Unrestricted Free agent signings
QB Tom Brady– 3 years, $100 million ($33.33 mil a year).
I hated giving him that much money, but they have to bid with many teams for Brady. In the end, it may come down to the Bucs or Titans, but in this scenario Tom Brady comes to Tampa Bay.The Bucs can get Jameis or Teddy for nearly $10 million cheaper which could add a quality offensive tackle or have that money be used in 2021 to extend Godwin. More on Brady’s outlook on the team to come later in the plan.
S Tony Jefferson– 1 years, $4.5 million
One year prove it deal for Jefferson to return with BA and Bowles. He is coming off a season ending knee injury, but he provides leadership the safety room needs and he is versatile enough to play both FS and SS.
CB Morris Claiborne– 1 year, $2.5 million
Caliborne just won a Super Bowl title, however, he was not dressing for a team weak at the CB position. He gets a solid deal where he can both mentor and contribute with Bowles and BA.
QB Drew Stanton– 1 year, $1.5 million. Comes in to compete with Gabbert for the backup role. Both QB’s are familiar with BA and Leftwich. So 2 will dress on game days and the other becomes a valuable backup if Brady were to go down.
OT Jared Veldheer– 1 year, $2.5 million
Can be a valuable swing tackle. Played for BA in Arizona. In the end I chose Veldheer over Dot because of his ability to plat LT and not be a liability in the run game.
LB Josh Bynes– 1 year, $1 million
Solid LB body that can play should injuries happen and contribute on special teams. Former BA and Bowles player as well.
Cap Space Remaining: 0.245 mil. Keep in mind though that $10.3 mil is being used for draft picks and injury replacement players. To offset this charge, a multi-year contract can be used to decrease the cap hit on the first year.
