While the window to compete and make the playoffs is narrow for the Buccaneers, it would be wise to be forward-thinking and draft a young quarterback to learn under Brady for the next two seasons.
If done correctly, this move could extend the window to win for the Buccaneers if the rookie was able to take in the valuable knowledge from a future Hall of Fame player.
This is a very similar situation to what happened in Kansas City with Patrick Mahomes learning under Alex Smith for a year. While the situation would be a little longer for the Buccaneers, a player like Jordan Love could be one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in two years if he can learn from Tom Brady.
Jordan Love does appear to have the higher ceiling of some of the later quarterback picks, but a player like Jacob Eason could also be a good fit.
While it doesn’t matter who is chosen, the Buccaneers do need to start preparing for down the road as this contract for Tom Brady will likely be his last.
The 2020 NFL Draft class has many talented quarterbacks with very high ceilings and the Buccaneers could find their next franchise quarterback to lead the team after Brady passes the torch, hopefully after a playoff run or two.
