Staying in the fourth round because of a compensatory pick, the Buccaneers will use their fifth overall pick in this mock draft on adding offensive line depth through John Simpson.

Simpson is surprisingly good value in the fourth round and would give the Bucs some much-needed depth on the interior of their offensive line.

Tampa Bay had mediocre offensive line depth in 2019 and paid for it when injuries would occur. Alex Cappa, Ryan Jensen, and Ali Marpet are a great trio on the inside, but the Bucs do need more consistent depth than players like Earl Watford.

Tampa Bay did recently add Joe Haeg in free agency, and Haeg and Simpson would be great depth pieces that can switch out on the offensive line when necessary, especially if Haeg doesn’t compete for a starting spot in year one.

Simpson is also another player that would have the chance to competing for a starting role down the road. The Bucs do look locked in on the interior of their line, but a player like Simpson does have a very high upside.

Alex Cappa had a good first season as a starter, but Tampa Bay has learned that they can take no chances with injuries on their offensive line. John Simpson would be a great player to serve as a contingency plan to protect Tom Brady when called upon and could be a future starter.
