The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have seven total picks in the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft. About how much will these rookies make on their first contract?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made several key decisions during the 2020 NFL free-agency period and now much of the attention has been turned towards the NFL Draft.

The Buccaneers are slated to pick with the No. 14 overall selection and have a total of seven picks currently in the upcoming draft.

How much of a cap hit will those draft picks have? Here’s a look at the estimated draft pool cap for each of Tampa Bay’s picks, according to Spotrac.

  • Round 1 (Pick No. 14): $2,781,714
  • Round 2 (Pick No. 45): $1,249,942
  • Round 3 (Pick No. 76): $772,300
  • Round 4 (Pick No. 117): $703,275
  • Round 4 (Pick No. 139): $673,295
  • Round 5 (Pick No. 161): $591,001
  • Round 6 (Pick No. 194): $554,590

Overall, Spotrac projects that the total cap hit from the draft for the Buccaneers will be around $7.3 million.

Thoughts:

It is interesting to see the major differences in the value of some of these picks from a draft prospect’s perspective.

For instance, there’s more than a $1 million difference between being a middle-first rounder and being a middle second-rounder. However, there’s less than a $100,000 difference between being a third-rounder and a fourth-rounder. Really, after the second-round, the numbers drop exponentially.

Throughout the offseason, Tampa Bay has been reportedly wanting to take an offensive tackle with that No. 14 overall pick. The name that has been closely linked to the Bucs is OT Andrew Thomas. Thomas, a Georgia product, would be a guy who could come in and find a starting role right away. That will be extremely important for an offense that is trying to progress to the next level and protect its most valuable commodity- Tom Brady– at quarterback.
