The Tampa Bay Buccaneers signed QB Tom Brady during free-agency, but former opponent Eli Manning said he was surprised at the decision.

Tom Brady made the decision to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during free-agency and that came as a surprise to many across the nation.

The Buccaneers are now considered one of the favorites to compete in the NFC and have an opportunity to reach the playoffs for the first time in 12 years.

Though Brady is excited about the prospect of joining his new team, his former opponent Eli Manning said he was a bit surprised on the decision.

"“I was surprised, how it all worked out,” Manning told Steve Serby of the New York Post. “I just did not imagine him leaving, them letting him go and him going somewhere else, just from my experience. But for him to have had all the success, do everything he’d done in New England and did it with one organization, I guess you just kind of wonder what was the reasoning? I don’t know if he felt unappreciated, or just wanted to try something different, but was surprised that this went down.”"

Manning went on to say that he still believes the New England Patriots can contend and that the Buccaneers should be very good, but that Super Bowls aren’t won in the spring.

The whole Tom Brady saga with Bill Belichik is certainly interesting and it’s clear that the 43-year-old veteran was ready to move on and try something different. Tampa Bay offered just that for him.

Obviously, the fact that Brady left New England was a surprise in and of itself, but I would still venture to say that it was surprising to most Buccaneers fans that he chose Tampa Bay as his destination. All of that should be credited to Bruce Arians and Jason Licht, for sure. The two- especially Arians- made a great pitch to Brady and they recognized the importance of getting a quarterback with winning experience to take over as the leader on this young team.
