Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Chris Godwin announces a new number
By Rob Leeds
After a few weeks of speculation by fans, Chris Godwin has announced that he will wear a new number in 2020, giving 12 to Tom Brady.
Chris Godwin‘s time wearing number 12 for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers has come to an end, but with good reason.
2020 will see Godwin wearing a number that is new to him; 14. The number may not make the man, but this is a very big move for Chris Godwin as he has worn the number 12 since high school.
Godwin announced the transition on his Twitter account this afternoon. The picture used is very fitting as this connection between Godwin and Tom Brady will become one of the most dangerous in the NFL in 2020.

While many players who make the Pro Bowl or All-Pro team get number priority, it is very hard to tell Tom Brady that he has to switch to a new number.
Tom Brady is one of the best football players of all time and is widely considered to be the best quarterback at least. Chris Godwin likely understood what had to happen based solely on the respect that Brady had earned over 20 years in the NFL.
The most interesting piece of information from this story was reported by Kimberly Jones in the above tweet. She reported that there was no deal in place for Brady to “buy” his number from Godwin as other players have done in the past. Chris simply offered the number 12 to Tom Brady.
This move is of the highest class and character and shows how great an attitude Chris Godwin possesses. He was willing to give up his number, something that matters so much to an athlete, as a sign of respect to his new quarterback.
Godwin is easily running away with the trophy for the easiest Buccaneer to like both on the field and off.
One has to think that these Tom Brady jerseys will be some of the best selling in Buccaneer history, but with the way that Chris Godwin is playing, one has to also assume that there will be a lot of number 14 jerseys in the crowd this season too.
