With no sports for the foreseeable future, fans of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers turn to Twitter as a means of staying competitive.
With most of the country currently under government-mandated “stay-at-home” orders, it was no surprise that fans of the Buccaneers took to social media for their human interaction fix.
For those who support the Bucs, this means finding ways to stay competitive in a time with an overall lack of competition.
The buzz around a Bucs Twitter poll deemed “Media Madness”, has begun to make waves around the Bay Area landscape.
The premise of the poll is a friendly tournament including players in the Bucs media as well as other up and comers. What started off as a simple way to pass the “no sports” time quickly became an exciting Twitter development.
Tenured Bucs media members such as ESPN reporter, Jenna Laine, and The Athletic journalist Greg Auman joined in on the friendly competition.
Then NFL Hall of Famer Warren Sapp gave his say on the media polls. Assuming Sapp knows this Buccaneer media fairly well, it’ll be an interesting note.
Word even spread to avid Buccaneer fan and member of the Backstreet Boys, Nick Carter. It seems people in Tampa Bay will get behind just about anything with a competitive nature at this point. We need football back.
It should also be noted that your very own Pewter Plank is doing quite well so far.
The tournament began with TPP ranked as a #3 seed. This put the site in a good position to make a deeper run. TPP advanced through the first two rounds and is currently winning 66% to 34% in the Sweet Sixteen. Make sure to keep up with the bracket as TPP will likely move into the Elite Eight tomorrow and will need your votes to advance to the Final Four!
In times like these, it’s comforting to see a community rally behind something whether that’s selling out Raymond James Stadium in Week 1, the unveiling of the new uniforms, or the massive hype generated around the signing of Tom Brady. Oh, and it’s also fun to get behind a friendly poll and compete with one another.
