Javon Kinlaw had an incredibly long and difficult journey to get to where he is now. Kinlaw is pegged to be a clear first-round pick in the upcoming draft, and he has a shot of cracking the top-10. Some players may take that for granted, but not Javon Kinlaw.
Kinlaw has battled with homelessness for most of his life, something that is unfathomably hard for anyone but is even more so for a kid. He was able to go into detail about this in an article written by Chase Goodbread for nfl.com.
The dominant defensive tackle who will likely make waves across the NFL started in the worst possible position, yet he was able to persevere and make the most of his talent.
Javon Kinlaw was mostly passed up by many college coaches when he was a senior in high school not because of his grades, but because of his behavioral problems that stemmed from the incredibly difficult situation that he was in.
Despite being passed up initially, Kinlaw worked his way up from Jones College in Mississippi to starting for South Carolina.
Stories like this are unfortunately too common and can be seen yearly such as running back for the Las Vegas Raiders, Josh Jacobs, who also had a similar story but was able to persevere and become a first-round pick like Kinlaw.
While he took a difficult path, Javon Kinlaw was able to persevere and has placed himself in a great spot for his future.
Tampa Bay may be looking for a different position with their first-round pick, but the Buccaneers would be lucky to be a part of this young player’s amazing story.
