1. Drafting an offensive tackle in Round 1

This has been and will continue to be the defining moment for the Buccaneers this offseason. The signing of Tom Brady is big, but it doesn’t hold a candle up to this move.

The Buccaneers are desperate for a consistent, starting-caliber tackle to protect Tom Brady. The same thing was needed for Jameis Winston, and without consistent protection, he was often forced to run for his life due to immediate pressure from the edges. The Bucs were going to have to make this move for any quarterback that they planned on fielding.

The current tackles for Tampa Bay do not cut it. Demar Dotson, who is currently still a free agent, was unable to play up to his career level this past season. His protection was lackluster and he had enough crushing penalties to warrant the end of his career with the Bucs.

Donovan Smith was no better, but he is still set to get paid by the Buccaneers and is not going anywhere.

The best move for the Bucs is to ensure that they snag one of the transcendent offensive tackles that will be found in round one. This may require a trade up to ensure that one can be taken, but providing Tom Brady with consistent pass protection is imperative to winning in 2020.
