The Buccaneers were able to bring Rob Gronkowski back from retirement to play in Tampa Bay. Could the same thing happen with Percy Harvin?
Having a player like Tom Brady makes playing for the Buccaneers in Tampa Bay a very desirable prospect. Rob Gronkowski couldn’t pass up the opportunity, and now Percy Harvin has made it known that he is looking to make a return to the NFL.
Josina Anderson of ESPN posted on Twitter today several quotes from Harvin, with the most significant one being about his past desires to play alongside Brady. He may be 31 and past his prime, but given the recent events, it’s hard to rule Tampa Bay out as a potential destination for the former Florida receiver.
Harvin last played back in 2016 after two disappointing seasons with the Buffalo Bills. The break has been extensive, but if Harvin can get his speed back, he would have something to offer to the Buccaneer offense.
Percy Harvin was a member of some great college football teams while at the University of Florida. When he transitioned to the NFL, Harvin was able to contribute as a receiver and special teamer and was the Offensive Rookie of the Year in the 2009 season.
After a very bright start, Harvin struggled with injuries for the remainder of his career and bounced around the league, never playing in a full season after 2011. These injuries are ultimately what led to Harvin retiring twice.
This would be a bizarre move for the Buccaneers to make, but Harvin was always known for his speed, and according to the workout videos posted on Josina Anderson’s Twitter, he looks to be in great shape.
Any injuries that still lingered during his playing career have likely dissipated, and Percy Harvin could be the healthiest that he has ever been.
The Buccaneers wouldn’t have to lean too heavily on the former Florida Gator as they already have an accomplished receiving corps, but using Percy Harvin as a fast depth piece would be fun to see in Tampa Bay in 2020.
