6 options for Buccaneers to draft after taking Tristan Wirfs
By Rob Leeds
Antonio Gibson, RB, Memphis
A lot of people have their eyes on Antonio Gibson for the Buccaneers now that CEH is off the board. Gibson may have played wide receiver predominantly in college, but his upside as a third-down back for Tampa Bay is incredibly high.
Tom Brady loves to check down to running backs, and there is none better than Antonio Gibson to fill this role. Tampa Bay would save themselves a second-round pick by not over-drafting a running back, and Gibson could fill the role that James White played for the Patriots in year one.
Great hands, explosiveness with the ball, and the ability to threaten the run all combine to make Gibson well-worth the third-round pick.
Cam Akers, RB, FSU
If he were to fall this far and the Buccaneers wanted more of a pure runner, Cam Akers would be a great selection in the third round. Akers was one of the few bright spots for several terrible FSU teams and has shown impressive ability running the football and catching out of the backfield.
Akers played behind the horrendous FSU offensive line and was still able to perform at a high level. If the Buccaneer line has improved as much as it seems with the addition of Wirfs, Akers could see running lanes with the Buccaneers that he hasn’t seen since high school.
Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame
If the Buccaneers don’t like any of the receiver fits in the second round, Chase Claypool could be available in the third round and is another player that would make the Buccaneer offense unfair to play against.
Claypool is a matchup nightmare thanks to his speed and size and would be able to serve as a dominant vertical threat alongside Mike Evans. This move would also give Tom Brady some of the best red-zone threats in the NFL.
