The Buccaneers have several roles that Austin would immediately improve, with the first being special teams.

Tampa Bay has been abysmal on special teams for years now, and while Raymond Calais and T.J. Logan have been the top names to compete for return duties, Austin would likely be a substantial improvement over either as a complete player.

For a team that is leaning heavily into winning now, taking a risk on two return men that may never pan out seems like a risky gamble. Austin would be the best option and brings much more to the team than a player like Logan.

Austin hasn’t been as successful on special teams as of recent, but a change of scenery could be all that is needed to turn the corner on a less successful part of his career.

In addition to his special teams potential, Austin could step in as the fourth wide receiver and the third running back in the Buccaneer offense. Austin has consistent hands for a player that lines up at running back and is a reliable receiving option with speed.

Tavon Austin would also bring more to the team than a player like Scotty Miller and has a real chance of being the fastest player on the team in 2020. Austin’s diverse skill set helps shore up several positions for the Buccaneers, something that is necessary for success in the upcoming season.

This signing would help both parties involved as Austin would get a chance to turn his career around, and Tampa Bay would get an option with a sizable amount of potential for a cheap contract. The Buccaneer offense would become that much more deadly through this signing, and the odds of making the playoffs would start to improve.
