FS: Antoine Winfield Jr.

SS: Mike Edwards

Corner: Carlton Davis and Jamel Dean

The secondary is the one part of this roster that will be the most difficult to predict. The Buccaneers currently have 17 players on their roster who will be vying for these four spots. The competition will be fierce, but these projections are based on who would be the best fit.

Carlton Davis is likely the only lock of the group. His 2019 campaign as a full starter was filled with success against top-end talent, and it seems unlikely that the Bucs would try to replace him.

The second-most likely starter from this group is Antoine Winfield Jr. Winfield hasn’t played an NFL snap yet, but he can play as the single high safety better than anyone else from the group and would immediately solve one of the biggest problems that Tampa Bay has struggled with for some time.

On to some of the most controversial selections, Edwards would be the best option to play strong safety based on his fit. With his size and talent, Edwards is the best safety on the roster that could play in the box. The Bucs may decide to go in a different direction and utilize two high safeties, but Todd Bowles likes having a guy that can play in the box, and that is Edwards.

Finally, Jamel Dean gets the nod here over Sean Murphy-Bunting, also based on fit. SMB has a very high ceiling and will have a great 2020 season, but Dean has the characteristics that better lend themselves to playing in press coverage that Bowles uses so much.

It is currently a toss-up who will take this second spot after Davis, but there isn’t a bad option as both second-year players have high expectations surrounding their future.
