Former Buccaneers that could return to Tampa before retiring
By Rob Leeds
It was tough for Bucs fans to watch Gerald McCoy sign with the Carolina Panthers last summer. To see one of the most successful and talented players in franchise history go to a division rival is a tough pill to swallow.
The addition of Ndamukong Suh did stem the bleeding a bit, but it still seemed like a weird move to see the Bucs turn away from one of their longest-tenured players only to bring in a similar player to play the same role on a comparable salary.
The Buccaneers have Suh for the time being, but it would be a cool sight to see McCoy return to Tampa Bay as a Buc and finally get the recognition that he deserves.
McCoy did just sign a three-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys, but there could be opportunities after that to come back to Tampa.
If he doesn’t have any gas left in the tank, McCoy should at least sign a one-day contract with Tampa Bay to retire a Buccaneer. A move like that would be the only way that McCoy should announce his retirement when that day comes.
If McCoy still wants to play in three years when he is 35, he could be willing to sign a cheap contract to play with the Buccaneers and would be able to provide as a depth piece on a defense that will hopefully be one of the best in the NFL.
