Former Buccaneers that could return to Tampa before retiring
By Rob Leeds
The Buccaneers do not have a lot of depth outside of their starting linebackers. Kendell Beckwith may never return to football, and Jack Cichy and Chapelle Russell are question marks. The Bucs may try to find a bit of a more proven entity to back up the starters alongside Kevin Minter.
Mark Barron was drafted by the Buccaneers as a strong safety back in 2012. Barron never found the success that should’ve accompanied his first-round status, and he was eventually traded and converted to linebacker.
Barron probably wouldn’t be a game-changer for the Buccaneers now, but he is a proven piece that brings a diverse play style to the middle linebacker position.
This move would make more sense down the road as the Bucs determine what they already have on their roster before bringing in anyone else, but the news on Beckwith and evaluating Russell will go a long way.
If any injuries occur at the position during this season before or after training camp, the Bucs could have Barron pegged as a possible bailout option.
His time in Tampa Bay may have left something to be desired, but Mark Barron could return to the Buccaneers to set the record straight sometime soon.
