The Buccaneers could change everything with a trade for Jamal Adams

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are still exploring other opportunities to win big during the 2020 offseason and one of those could involve a star-studded trade.

The New York Jets have reportedly been tinkering with the idea of trading Pro-Bowl safety Jamal Adams away due to the fact that his contract is up following the 2020 season and he’ll be set to make well over $13 million per year when he gets his next deal.

In addition to Adams’ pricey contract, there has been some friction between both sides as they pursue options to keep him long-term. As a result, many NFL teams- including the Buccaneers- have been linked as potential trade partners with the Jets.

The Buccaneers are in ‘win now’ mode and Adams can help

No matter what you think of Tampa Bay’s chances of landing Adams long-term, the truth of the matter is that he can help them ‘win now.’

The Buccaneers have sold out to the idea of winning over the course of the next couple of seasons and Adams is primed to be one of the best safeties (if not the best) in the league. Tampa Bay has young talent in the secondary, but nothing to compare to what Adams could bring to that defensive backfield.

If you add a player of Adams’ caliber to the lineup with that front-seven and the young talent in the secondary, you’re talking about one of the most solid defenses in the league along with a lethal offense.

In my opinion, Adams adds 1-2 wins just with his presence and ability. All of a sudden, we could begin hearing the Buccaneers not just as contenders for a postseason spot, but as potential favorites for the NFC South Division. That’s how much of a difference Adams would make.

Perhaps it’s not worth it in the long-term, but it’s hard to turn down one of the league’s best safeties if a deal could be worked out.
