Scotty Miller– third-down running back

The Buccaneers have a unique problem to handle going into the 2020 season, and it is that they have too many mouths to feed. The Bucs have talented players throughout their offense, and it will be a struggle to spread the ball out evenly, especially to the players deeper on the depth chart.

In a move that would undoubtedly be unique, the Bucs could give Scotty Miller some reps as the third-down back, in two-back sets, or as a change of pace option. It would certainly be unconventional, but Miller and recent draft pick Raymond Calais have similar talents, and Miller has a better chance to make the final roster.

The offseason has already been shortened, and the Bucs have no clue what they have in Calais. If the team is unable to get an accurate grasp of his skillset before starting the season, he could spend some time on the practice squad or playing for a different team.

If Tampa Bay goes that direction and doesn’t use Calais, Miller would still be able to serve that role well as a receiving back. His hands would already be better than most backs, he is the fastest player on the team, and the Bucs need to find a way to get him touches.

He may be great with the ball, but Miller would be a liability as a pass-blocker and that would have to be accounted for. Still, if Tarik Cohen can be an All-Pro at his size, Miller playing the same role is not as far-fetched as it may seem, especially when Miller already looks to be buried in a talented depth chart and will be itching for touches.
