Sign free agent IDL Chris Jones

If the Buccaneers do decide that Jamie Newman is the better first-round pick and pass up Marvin Wilson, they will still be in the market for a new starting defensive end.

Signing Chris Jones would be far more expensive than Wilson or even Suh, but this move would still be worthwhile for the Buccaneers.

Jones is one of the best defensive linemen currently playing in the NFL. His ability to immediately put pressure on the quarterback and his level of play versus the run make him a perfect fit in the Buccaneer defense alongside Vita Vea.

This signing is also extremely realistic, as there is now trouble in Kansas City between Jones and the Chiefs.

In a slightly different scenario than Ngakoue, Jones is threatening to hold out if the Chiefs don’t sign him to a long-term deal. With Patrick Mahomes starting the biggest NFL contract ever, the Chiefs are understandably apprehensive about committing to any other large signings.

If Jones does hold out for the whole year and enters free agency, his fit with the Buccaneers can’t be ignored. This would be expensive for Tampa Bay, but proven players with bright futures are easily worth the money.
