LeSean McCoy-RB2 and third-down back

Outside of RoJo, the rest of the running back room for the Buccaneers is an enigma. Ke’Shawn Vaughn was allegedly drafted to be the new James White for Tom Brady, then it looked like Dare Ogunbowale was going to retain his role, and then the Buccaneers dropped a bombshell on everyone when they signed Shady McCoy.

Despite having little familiarity with the system, McCoy is instantly a favorite to be the new starting third-down back in Tampa Bay, especially considering that he has played the role since most of his fellow backs were in middle school.

McCoy has the experience, talent, and drive to be the clear number two back on this roster. Despite his age, Shady was a lead back for the majority of 2019 for the Kansas City Chiefs, and there will be almost no drop off in rushing ability if he comes in for Jones.

Ke’Shawn Vaughn is likely the biggest contender for McCoy for the second role (not for the pass-catching role). Vaughn has the talent to be a great back between the Buccaneers’ tackles, but Arians may see McCoy as the safer option in a year where a deep playoff run is a possibility.

2020 predictions: 75 rushing attempts for 315 yards, 55 receptions for 400 yards, three total touchdowns
