Defensive Depth Chart Breakdown, Takeaways

  • Antoine Winfield Jr. wins a starting spot at safety
  • Carlton Davis wins the starting cornerback battle
  • Anthony Nelson will have a huge role as the primary backup at OLB

When looking at the defensive depth chart, the biggest takeaway is the fact that rookie Antoine Winfield Jr. is listed as a starter.

There was a lot of chatter about what role Winfield Jr. would be able to play this season and he’s certainly answered those questions in a big way early on. It should come as no surprise that Carlton Davis is listed as the starting CB opposite-side of Sean Murphy-Bunting simply because of the praise he has had heaped upon him from Bruce Arians himself.

One of the biggest takeaways is the lack of depth at the linebacker position, as a whole. Both Anthony Nelson and Kevin Minter will play huge roles this season as the primary backups at their positions.
