Tom Brady makes it another week without a sack

The Buccaneers pulled off the almost-unthinkable this past week when they didn’t surrender a sack against the Carolina Panthers. The offensive line has been a weak point for Tampa Bay in the past, but there was a clear improvement during week two.

Tristan Wirfs and Donovan Smith had their best games of the season, and the interior of the line was as consistent as ever. Alex Cappa has started playing at a starting level in pass protection, and the rest of the line has set a solid example for the young guard.

In the NFL, sacks typically come off the edge from most teams, and the zero sacks stat from last week is mostly a reflection on the great game that Wirfs and Smith were able to put together. Smith experienced a shaky start to the season, but a game like this works well to silence the doubters. If Smith continues to play at this level, he could make the most of his expensive contract in Tampa Bay and keep the offense rolling.

The Denver defense is tricky, and while Von Miller won’t play, that doesn’t mean the Buccaneers won’t face a dangerous pass rush. Bradley Chubb is still a force to reckon with, and the Buccaneer tackles will need to fire on all cylinder to keep Brady’s jersey clean for the second week in a row.
