Tampa Bay receives: John Ross and Cincinnati Bengals 2021 6th-round pick

Cincinnati receives: Cameron Brate

The Buccaneers do not need depth at receiver with their current options on the roster, but the idea of a team not using a player like John Ross when he is healthy is hard to comprehend. Ross has struggled with injuries for the entirety of his career, but his upside in the Buccaneer offense is hard to ignore.

Starting with Cincinnati, Joe Burrow has quickly formed chemistry with his wide receivers, but tight end has become a question mark with the loss of C.J. Uzomah. Drew Sample could turn into a solid player down the road, but Brate would give the unit exceptional depth for the rookie quarterback.

The Bengals don’t use as many two-tight end sets as the Buccaneers, but Brate has a proven track record with first-round pick quarterbacks, and he could turn into another excellent option for Joe Burrow.

As far as the Buccaneers are concerned, the best part about this trade is that they can receive a player and a pick. The Bengals have almost no leverage over the Ross situation, especially if he is on the bench while healthy, and they will want to trade him for any compensation at all before they lose him for nothing.

As previously mentioned, the Bucs have no immediate need for Ross, but he would only add to the already-stacked Buccaneer receiver corps while also providing proper depth. Tyler Johnson dropped his only target of the day and looks like he may need some time on the practice squad, and Ross is a far better pass-catcher than Cyril Grayson while having the same speed.

The Bucs would immediately get better with this move, and Ross would give Tom Brady another option for the next two seasons.
