Tampa Bay Buccaneers have a ‘Rookie of the Year’ on their roster

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might very well have the ‘Rookie of the Year’ Award coming home before it’s all said and done because of the talent and performance of safety Antoine Winfield Jr.

Winfield Jr., who was taken in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers, quickly showed that he’d be making a major impact during the 2020 season when he came into Training Camp- with no OTAs- and had basically earned a starting spot after one week of practice.

But it wasn’t just his preseason that showed that Winfield Jr. was going to be special player.

In the first three games of the season, he has racked up 23 tackles, eight assists, two sacks and a forced fumble. Because of that performance, Winfield Jr. was named the Defensive Rookie of the Month for September.

Could that honor be foreshadowing of things to come for the Buccaneers rookie?

There’s no doubt when you look at how Winfield Jr. has played through the first three games of the season that he is one of the top rookies in the league.

Winfield Jr. may very well be the best safety prospect in his class- and we said as much when the Bucs drafted him- and it’s showing week-in and week-out.

As we continue to progress through this 2020 season, the thing about the safety that seems almost a given at this point is that he’s going to continue to rack up the accolades.

It wouldn’t be surprising at all to see Winfield Jr. continue to be named Defensive Rookie of the Month in both October and November, and if he does that, you’ve got to think that he’ll be a favorite to win the Rookie of the Year Award when it’s all said and done.
