Bruce Arians and Byron Leftwich started the season flat

Head coach Bruce Arians is a tricky guy to understand. Arians has a temper that stereotypically fits a football coach well, but is clearly loved by his players and has worked with some of the best quarterbacks in the NFL over his career.

Despite sticking to his offensive system to a fault throughout most of his career, he has completely changed his offense for Tom Brady, which appears to go against his personality. While Arians has been better in the past two games, the small sample size shows that 50% of his decision-making is suspect, which is uncharacteristic.

Arians has never been great with coaches challenges, as seen last season, but his lone challenge of the 2020 season so far was exceptionally bad. As far as the play calling is concerned, Arians and Leftwich underused Brady to a painful level in the first two games, and the offense struggled because of it.

If the Buccaneers want to live up to their potential, they will need the coaching staff firing on all cylinders.

Hopefully, some of the mistakes so far have just been flukes. The offense looked much better against the Chargers, but still, no one expected there to be question marks surrounding the coaching decisions or for the offense to only score five points against the Broncos in a half, but Arians and Leftwich still have time to recover.
