Carlton Davis competes for a Buccaneer record

CB1 for the Buccaneers, Carlton Davis, currently has two interceptions on the year, and this rate could have him close in the race for the most interceptions in a single season by a Buccaneer.

Ronde Barber is still first in this category with 10 in a single season, Cedric Brown is in second with nine, and Davis would tie Brian Kelly with eight, but this is excellent company to keep as a young corner.

Despite some of the head-scratching penalties, Davis has been great to start the year. Davis could have a massive new contract coming his way before the end of his rookie deal at the current rate that he is playing.

On the topic of possibility, the best bet is that Davis will probably not get to eight interceptions. That number is incredibly high, given the matchups that are being played. Davis is taking the best receiver week in and week out, and putting up a stat line like that would easily have the young defensive back in the Defensive Player of the Year conversation.

The most likely possibility is that Davis will finish the season with five or six picks, which will still be phenomenal for this team and for his future. Regardless of interceptions, Davis is doing his job very well to start the year, and Tampa Bay has finally found its shut-down corner.
