Kyle Love

The third and final player on this list is a familiar face for the Buccaneers. Kyle Love played with division rival Carolina Panthers for several years and also played through training camp with the Buccaneers before this season. With the injury to Vita Vea, it is entirely likely that Love will get a call from the Buccaneers very soon.

In the Buccaneer 3-4 defense, having a consistent nose tackle is vital. Vea played this position at an extremely high level over the past few years and was on a pace that could’ve left him in the All-Pro conversation at the end of this year without the injury. Unfortunately for the Bucs, Vea is out for the season, and they need to find a replacement soon.

The Buccaneers already have Rakeem Nunez-Roches on the roster to be the backup for Vea, but they may want to find an additional piece as an insurance policy. Nose tackle is such an important position that having consistent pieces here is more important than most other areas.

As it stands, Nunez-Roches is the clear starter, but Love could fit the position well in a depth capacity. The Buccaneers won’t be in the worst situation, as they run a decent amount of nickel, but they also don’t want to start selling themselves short yet personnel-wise.

Like the other players on this list, this move would mainly be for a year, but the Buccaneers need to make these decisions soon. Otherwise, they will be shorthanded with a tough stretch of games remaining throughout the season. Kyle Love gives the Buccaneers a better opportunity to compete and would not require long to grow acclimated to the defense.
