Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Redrafting the 2017 draft class
By Rob Leeds
Chris Godwin, Wide receiver, Penn State
Originally drafted by the Buccaneers here
Chris Godwin was one of the best picks by value in the entire draft. The Buccaneers knew they were getting a solid player with an impressive resume, but Godwin exceeded those expectations and emerged as one of the best receivers in the NFL.
After two seasons of decent performances on an inconsistent offense, Godwin exploded onto the scene in 2019 with a clear top-five performance. Godwin earned a spot on the All-Pro team and in the Pro Bowl and finished as one of the best receivers stats-wise as well.
The only drawback with Godwin is that he has played too well. The Buccaneers will have to shell out a significant contract soon, and with Mike Evans already on the roster, the money gets very tight. There are very few reasons to have two of the highest-paid receivers in the league on the same roster given the value of the position, but the Bucs are still very happy with this pick.
Godwin is struggling with injuries right now, but he still has many more All-Pro races left to run, and Bucs fans should fully expect him to end up there.
