Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Redrafting the 2017 draft class
By Rob Leeds
Aaron Jones, Running back, Texas-El Paso
Originally drafted by the Green Bay Packers at 5-182
Considering the fact that Jeremy McNichols never played a snap in the regular season for the Buccaneers, we’re mostly playing with house money here. Matt Milano was an enticing option at linebacker, but the Bucs are set there now, and many of the other picks have been lackluster.
While spending two draft picks on running backs feels taboo, imagine the Buccaneer offense with Kamara and Jones on the field. Both are great receivers and can run through the tackles well. The Bucs could use a committee approach and could still post impressive numbers individually as their efficiency is one of their main selling points.
Making a selection like this would’ve saved the Buccaneers from the heartbreak and boredom of the Peyton Barber years while still setting up this current team for the best success.
Tom Brady would have a field day with two backs of this caliber, but that is too much of a thought to stomach.
Jones has been a criminally underrated running back during his time in the NFL and deserves to be in the conversation for top-five in the league. Jones is just another example of why teams should wait for the later rounds because some of the best running back talent is outside of the top rounds.
