Ryan Griffin

Ryan Griffin is one of the largest points of confusion on the roster. Expensive is a relative term, but Griffin is certainly costly when compared to his role on the team. As the second-highest-paid quarterback on the roster, Griffin is actually the third-string option, and his outlook for being more than that is highly questionable.

Griffin is a great guy and a good presence on the roster, but the Buccaneers have no business ever paying him more than the league minimum.

Every time the Buccaneers showed some point of uncertainty at the quarterback position, Griffin’s name is always tossed in like a cult hero to the rescue, but Griffin just isn’t that player.

All of the “massive success” that Griffin has shown during his career has come during the preseason against players that mostly reside on practice squads. That level of play against weak competition is not an indication of stellar play during the regular season, and to pretend otherwise is negligent.

The Buccaneers are wasting money on a third-string quarterback, and there is little chance that they can afford to keep three next season. Griffin should be the odd man out next year with the roster compiled in its current state unless he takes a significant pay decrease.
