The Tampa Bay Buccaneers currently field their best defense in nearly two decades, and the unit as a whole is much better with Mike Edwards on the field.

The Buccaneers have a unique level of talent at their safety position. With three starting-caliber players on the roster who could start at either side, Tampa Bay has a wealth of options at the position. Jordan Whitehead and Antoine Winfield Jr. are playing at incredible levels, and Mike Edwards serves as overkill.

Winfield Jr. and Whitehead are the current starters, but Edwards is playing at a level that is unmatched by anyone else on the roster.

Edwards continues to play horrifically small shares of the defensive reps, yet he is always near the ball when he is on the field. In the last three games that he has received defensive snaps, Edwards has a pass defended in all three, an interception in all three (although the one versus the Raiders was negated due to a Shaquil Barrett penalty), and all of this is done on a severe snap count.

Edwards has only played over 20% of the defensive snaps just once this season, and he has only received these chances to play a mere three times this season.

Given the current incredible level of production, the Bucs have to find a way to get Edwards on the field more.
