Chris Godwin will miss some time with a fractured left index finger, per reports

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be without star wide receiver Chris Godwin following an injury he sustained in the game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Godwin, who has been one of the Buccaneers’ leading receivers through the first portion of this season, suffered a fracture in his left index finger making a touchdown catch Sunday in Las Vegas, according to a report from the Tampa Bay Times’ Rick Stroud.

Stroud reported that Godwin required surgery Tuesday and that he will miss Monday night’s game against the New York Giants, but could potentially return for the following week’s matchup with the New Orleans Saints back at home.

On the season, Chris Godwin has 25 receptions for 279 yards and two touchdowns.

Chris Godwin has been injury-plagued for most of the 2020 season

Godwin- who previously missed a couple of games with a hamstring injury- had just gotten back to playing at 100 percent seemingly when this injury happened.

While the Buccaneers will likely be fine Monday night due to the fact they’re playing the Giants, the truth is that Godwin’s injury didn’t come at a great time.

His counterpart, Mike Evans, has been battling injuries and it was clear on Sunday against the Raiders that he wasn’t at 100 percent. Scotty Miller and Rob Gronkowski, especially, have stepped up to fill the void and now they’ll be relied upon even more heavily as they look to get the passing game going without one of their top two receivers and the other one still banged up.

The hope is that Godwin will be able to be back against the Saints, but he’ll still be rehabbing that finger injury even if he is able to play.
